About Humalog Mix 25 Kwikpen 100IU/ml

The Humalog Mix 25 Kwikpen 100IU/ml is an insulin pen that contains a combination of two medications, insulin lispro (25%) that has a fast onset of action and insulin lispro protamine (75%) that has a prolonged duration of action. Together, these two medicines ensure a consistent and rapid sugar control throughout the day by facilitating re-uptake of sugar in muscle and fat cells and suppressing the production of sugar in the liver.

Insulin should be part of your diabetes treatment program advised by a doctor, combined with a healthy diet, exercise and weight reduction.

The Humalog Mix25 KwikPen is normally prescribed alongside a long-acting type of insulin by doctors. It effectively manages blood sugar levels for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to avoid diabetes-related complications.

Humalog Mix 25 Kwikpen: Usage

Your doctor or nurse should instruct you on how to properly administer your insulin correctly.

Humalog Mix 25 Kwikpen is injected under the skin (subcutaneously). Inject in the abdomen for faster absorption. Insulin can also be injected in the skin of the upper legs and arms or buttocks. After injection, do not massage the area of injection.

It is taken 15 minutes before your meal or within 20 minutes of starting your meal.

It is important to monitor blood sugar levels regularly and share results with your doctor so they can provide the correct dosage based on your individual needs.

Rotate injection sites in order to prevent hard lumps from forming at injection sites.

Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia may result when taken with other antidiabetic medicines, skipping or delaying meals or consuming alcohol.

Carry a sugar source such as glucose tablets, candy or sugary drink for immediate relief from hypoglycemia.

Open insulin vials or cartridges can be stored at room temperature for up to 4 weeks. Unopened vials should refrigerated at 2°C–8°C.

Do not use until the contents are mixed. Do not shake the device too hard as this may cause frothing can can interfere with dose measuring. Examine the device for any particles floating inside giving a frosted appearance.

How to prime your Humalog Mix 25 Kwikpen

Priming your pen is required. If this is not done or done correctly, then you may receive too much or too little insulin. To do, turn the dial 2 units. Hold your pen with needle pointing up. Tap cartridge holder to get air bubbles to the top. Push the dose knob until the dosage window stops at “0”. Hold dose knob and count to five. You should then see the insulin at the tip of the needle.

What to do if the dose knob becomes stiff or hard to push?

Pushing the dose knob on the pen slowly will make it easier to inject. Put on a new needle and prime the pen if the needle is blocked.
