Humalog Junior KwikPen

Humalog Junior KwikPen offers the combined benefits of a rapid-acting insulin in a prefilled disposable pen and half-unit dosing to help control your child’s diabetes.

It differs from the Humalog KwikPen since it offers half-unit increments plus it shouldn’t be refrigerated after first use. Due to its size, it can be carried anywhere for application.

Humalog® Junior KwikPen® (insulin lispro injection 100 units/mL) is the only pre-filled, disposable half-unit insulin pen used to treat those with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Humalog Junior KwikPen 100 Units / mLFor children and their caregivers, learning how to inject insulin can be challenging and overwhelming. With the Humalog Junior KwikPen there are fewer steps for involved during the injection process since it’s pre-filled and the half-unit increments make dosing more precise.

In the past, delivering half unit of insulin could only be done through reusable pens that requires removing and loading cartridges. With the Humalog Junior KwikPen this can be easily accomplished through its ability to administer fine-tuned dosing.

Humalog Junior KwikPens are designed to be shorter and lighter than other pre-filled half-unit insulin pens. Its design has been approved by the International Organization of Standardization.

Humalog Junior KwikPen offers half-unit increments are ideal for those with insulin sensitivity and older adults who require precision when applying their insulin injection and need to round to the nearest whole-unit.

Users can apply finer dose adjustments (0.5 vs 1 unit dose increments) for diabetics who normally require small doses (?30 units) during mealtime of Humalog® U-100 (insulin lispro injection 100 units/mL).

Humalog® Junior KwikPen®: Side Effects

Although symptoms may differ for all patients, low blood sugar is the most common side effect with taking insulin. Severe low blood sugar levels can lead to hypoglycemia. Low blood sugar can also lead to symptoms including unconsciousness (passing out), seizures and even death.

If symptoms occur they should receive immediate attention to stabilize blood sugar levels. Treating low blood sugar is extremely important and can be done by eating a source of sugar, such as glucose tablets, a table spoon of honey or jam, jelly beans or lifesavers, a tablespoon of sugar or a non-diet soft drink.

Speak to your doctor if you are experiencing any symptoms of low blood sugar as it may be related to your diet or will require a modification to dosage.

Other side effects with Humalog Junior KwikPen include:

Humalog® Junior KwikPen®: Usage

Humalog KwikPen Junior is a pen that must be injected underneath the skin (subcutaneously). To do this:

  • clean the tip of the pen with an alcohol swab and attach needle;
  • choose required dose
  • clean the skin injection site with alcohol and swab
  • pinch the skin and inject into the fold
  • Pinching the skin may not be necessary if you are using a short needle
  • wait a few days before injecting into the same spot again

Do not share your Humalog Junior KwikPen, even if the needle has been changed. Sharing diabetes pens can lead to the transmission of pathogens or spread serious infection.

Do not change the insulin you are currently using without advising your doctor first. These changes can result in potential spikes or drops in blood sugar. Changes should be monitored by a healthcare provider.

Insulin doses may require modification due to illness, stress, diet changes, increased physical activity and other medications you may be taking.

Test your blood glucose levels regularly and as instructed by your doctor. You can do this with a blood glucose monitor or glucose meter.

Humalog should be injected under the skin (subcutaneously). Never inject into a muscle or vein.

Rotate injection sites to avoid skin complications and do not inject into skin that is lumpy.

Always make sure you are taking the correct insulin dosage.

If you miss a dose, contact a medical professional or pharmacist. Never double a dose to make up for a missed dose.
