The Basaglar 100 Units/ml Cartridge is a considered both a long-lasting insulin used to treat those with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It delivers a steady flow of insulin throughout the day to effectively control blood glucose (sugar) levels in order to prevent complications from diabetes.

This type of insulin is a man-made form that replaces insulin normally produced by the body and deliver glucose to the cells in order to use it as energy. By lowering blood sugar levels you can avoid diabetes complications such as eye damage, nerve problems, damage to the organs or loss of limbs.

If you stop taking this medication altogether you may experience complications such as high blood sugar levels.

This popular diabetes cartridge is generally prescribed by doctors to be accompanied by fast-acting insulin or other diabetes medications. Follow directions as instructed on the pack inside or as prescribed by your doctor. Dosages and duration should be based on a patients individual situation. Never skip or change your dose.

This medication should be used along with a healthy diet and regular exercise program by your doctor to maximize results.

Your doctor or nurse should show you how to administer the injection subcutaneously (under the skin) into the thigh, abdomen or deltoid. Use a different spot for injection every time to avoid any pitting, thickened skin or lumps.

If you have low blood sugar levels do not take this medication. It’s important to inject the
correct dosage, monitor blood sugar levels regularly and have regular meals.

Notify your doctor if you have kidney, heart or liver problems. If you are pregnant your breastfeeding you should advise your doctor prior to using it.

Do not drink excessive alcohol while taking this medication as it ca lead to a dangerously low blood sugar level.

Side effects

Common side effects might include:

• low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)
• allergic reactions
• skin irritation at injection site (redness, hard lumps, swelling)
• weight gain

Basaglar 100 IU/ml 3 ml cartridges contain:

• Insulin garlgine I.P. (equivalent to 3.64 mg)
• Hydrochloric acid solution I.P. 10%
• Glycerin I.P. 17 mg, Metacresol Ph. Eur. 2.7 mg
• Sodium hydroxide solution I.P. 10%
• Zinc oxide I.P. q.s. to provide Zn2+ content of 0.03 mg
• Water for injection I.P. q.s. to 1 ml.

Storing Basaglar 100 IU/ml 3 ml Cartridge

• Before use – store in the refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C)
• After use – store at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C) for up to 28 days
• Do not freeze or use if its been frozen
• Store in package to protect from direct light
• Discard 28 days after first use
• Store unopened cartridges in the refrigerator

Additional Precautions with Basaglar 100 IU/ml 3 ml Cartridges:

• Do not use this medication if it is color less, cloudy or has any visible floating particles
• Never share Basaglar syringe or needles with anyone else
• Discard 28 days after first use
• Keep away from children
• Take precaution for hypoglycemia, hypokalemia, hypersensitivity, lipohypertrophy or lipoatrophy
• Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications
• Put all of your used needles in a sharps container, not the trash
• Keep plenty of test strips, lancets, alcohol swabs and needles handy for insulin injections
• Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications, supplements or herbal remedies

Instructions for application

• Using an alcohol swab clean the tip of the cartridge and attach a needle
• Clean the skin with an alcohol swab before application
• Pinch the skin and inject the insulin into the fold. This may not be necessary if you are using a short needle. Speak to your pharmacist or doctor for correct method of application
• You can inject in the same site after a few days have passed
